Founded in 1979, the Fertility Center’s philosophy is to provide the most comprehensive fertility evaluation and care available. The in-vitro fertilization program and lab were introduced in 1983 and are fully certified by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. The Fertility Center’s team of experienced physicians, clinicians and support staff combine their expertise to help thousands of couples achieve the success for which they’ve been trying so hard and waiting so long.

The Fertility Center is directed by its founder, Jeffrey S. Rakoff, who is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Rakoff is also the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & In Vitro Fertilization Program. Dr. Rakoff is uniquely experienced in providing state-of-the-art care for couples seeking fertility treatment.

In addition to the expertise of Dr. Rakoff, the Fertility Center uses a team of physicians from many specialties to aid in diagnosing and resolving fertility problems. The Center may call upon any of a number of specialists from Scripps Clinic to consult as necessary in a two-part program of evaluation and treatment. First, a physician thoroughly evaluates the nature of the couple’s problems to determine the cause of infertility. A complete review of medical and reproductive histories is followed by a physical examination and appropriate diagnostic studies. After the evaluation has been completed, the physicians meet with the patients to outline a plan for therapy.

The Fertility Center also provides emotional support for patients as part of the overall fertility treatment program. The Center’s support group, let by a licensed therapist, meets frequently to provide support and perspective for patients. In addition, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and clinical social workers are available for consultation as needed.

Education and research are also important aspects of the Fertility Center. For patients, an ongoing series of education programs covers all aspects of fertility problems and their treatments. In addition, the Center’s health professionals are continually seeking new information while sharing their knowledge with their patients and peers. The Fertility Center frequently hosts seminars at Scripps Clinic for infertility specialists from around the country.
